Work Kills
"Beep beep" Sounded my alarm. "Another day's work" I sigh. I get out of bed and walk over to the radiator in the corner of the room where I left my work clothes to dry over night. I pick them up to get dressed into a Polk a dot tie, plain white shirt and coal colored trousers. Dressed, I walk over to my bedside cabinet, picking up my wallet and keys I turn to face my bedroom door and proceed down the hall, reaching the end of a long hallway I turn to my left and rush down some stairs. I hurriedly pour some cereal into a bowl and guzzle it down. I stand up rush to the front door and slip on my shoes unlocking the front door I step out into the sharp cold air; I sprint down the path and around the corner barely missing bumping into a passer-by I carry on running down the road until I reach my place of work. I open the door walk through the reception area flashing my ID badge at the security guard as I pass "I hope the boss doesn't see me coming in" I think to myself. I sit down at my work place and get to work to make myself look busy. "Robert" shouts a voice from the distance. "Oh no he saw me" I think to myself "Who do you think you are coming in and not telling me you are here". My boss walks over to me and continues to shout at me his voice slowly getting louder and louder.
After a short while he stops shouting and walks away to let me carry on with my work. One hour later it is time for my break so I decide to go for a walk to clear my head. As I leave the building I feel the fresh summer air brush past my face as I walk down the street I pass a man who seems to start following me he's dressed in black jogging bottoms and top with a navy blue baseball cap and holding a briefcase. A little further down the street I bend down to tie my laces to test to see if he's following me as I do he pretends to look in a near by shop window. "This man's a professional" I think to myself. I walk into to a cafe just across the road and the man sits on the table opposite . I turn round to see if I can see the waitress seeing that she is busy with another customer I look in front of me and surprised that he's sitting at my table. He tells me to just listen to him so I do. He informs that he has been watching me for a long time, that he knows how my boss treats me and he knows how to stop him. He offers me a gun. I am tempted. But I refuse I'm no killer. As I stat to go to leave he offers to drive me back to work but I turn him down. He brushes past me as he leaves. I sit back down and wait a little while to make sure he's gone. After another 5 minutes I get up and leave. I think about what he said all the way back to work. I walk up to my work space and sit down as I do I feel something in my pocket push against my leg. I remove the object from to realize that it's a gun. He must have dropped it into my pocket when he brushed past me. "Damn I have to get rid of it". I stand up and begin to leave when suddenly I hear a voice shout from behind me. "Robert!!! come to my office immediately I have something to tell you". I walk in in to his office. "Sit down" he says but before I have a chance he begins "You are a disgrace, you come into work late then try to sneak out" I tense my hand as I feel the anger boiling up inside of me wanting to just put the gun to his head and end his futile life. "You have had too many final chances. You're fired" I just stand there angry and bemused, not sure whether to scream or cry. "I said you're fired so get your arse out of here now" I turn around and walk out silently I leave but as I do I see that man again. "You should have killed him when you had a chance I guess now I'll have to do your dirty work for you" he says "Don't you dare" I reply viciously. "Well, I can't until you give me my gun back" "No, I'm handing it into the police then it will be their problem" "You can't let people push you around forever you'll have to stand up for your self sooner or later" I ignore his remark and leave for home to sleep. As I arrive home I contemplate what that man said to me but decide to put it to the back of my mind and go to sleep. "Beep beep" I'd better get out of bed I tell myself after a restless night sleep. I get up and dressed then walk down stairs for breakfast. "At least I don't have to rush, I'd better look for a job tomorrow" . I get up and leave the house to get some fresh air. As I walk past my 'Previous' workplace I spot a group of police cars parked around it. "I told you to kill him but you didn't so I did it for you" I hear a voice behind me say. I turn around to see that man, again. "However my help comes with a price as I have a little problem of my own, three years ago my father was killed by a vicious gang. Before they could receive justice they went into hiding" he pauses for breath. "I've finally pinpointed their location but I need help, while I'm 'getting to know' the leader who delivered the fatal blow I need you to make the rest of the gang pay" I stand there silent not sure of what to say. "Well, what is your answer" he demands. "No, of course not, I'm no murderer" I reply "I wasn't asking I was telling" he cuts in. "I can make your life very difficult if you refuse" he furiously replies Just as I'm about to reply he cuts in once more. "I'll let you sleep on it but be sure come tomorrow I will come knocking" We part ways I walk in the opposite direction. I walk past the local library and decide to go in. I grab a good book and find a seat in a secluded part of the library. I ponder what he said deciding on what to do after about 6 hours the librarian comes over to tell me the library is closing. I look up shocked at her stunning beauty, she's wearing a blue low cut top with dark grey trousers and beautiful blond hair she's without any imperfections the perfect representation of a woman. "Ok, I'm now leaving" I reply. Lacking the confidence to ask her name I leave without saying a word. However s I leave I realize how late it has become. I step outside instantly hit by the pitch black darkness. As I walk home I hear drunks singing in the pubs, loitering the streets. Walking at the quickest pace my feet can manage I finally arrive at my home but sense that something's wrong as I step in I immediately see that someone has been in my house, smashed glass litters the floor furniture toppled over. A feeling of dread suddenly hits me I rush up to my room to see clothes strewn on the floor I walk to the spot I hid the gun to find it missing. I immediately pick up the phone and call the police to report the break in neglecting to tell them about the gun, I grab my bat that I keep under my bed for safety and search around the house for the intruder but there's no sign so I step outside awaiting the police's arrival. As I step outside I wonder if they are still around watching the fear they have caused, five minutes pass when finally I hear the comforting sound of police sirens wailing in the distance slowly approaching. They come to a stop in front of my driveway exiting their vehicle they approach me. They ask me several questions asking if I've seen anyone suspicious hanging around the neighborhood but I inform them that I've been out most of the day. They look around the house and the immediate area in a hope of finding the intruder to no avail. I decide to check into a hotel for the night just to be on the safe side. The following morning there is a knock at the hotel door I open the door expecting the room service I order as I woke up but my heart sinks as I realize that it is the man from yesterday. He barges past me sitting down on my bed "Have you made a decision" he asks "Do I have a choice" I reply "Not really, meet me at this address" He hands me a map with the address marked down and leaves, I check out of the hotel a little later. I run as fast as I can mange to the address to see him standing in front of the house, he waves me over. "Right, I'll take the back, you the front" he passes me a knife and vaults over the back fence. I try the handle but it's locked, I smash into the door with all my strength and luckily it gives way. I move from room to room franticly looking for the gang. As I'm clearing more and more rooms I start to have a bad feeling. When finally I arrive at the final room of the house. I stand by the door placing my ear to the door hoping to hear any sign of life, I open the bed room door to find it empty all this for nothing but I still have that same bad feeling that I felt earlier. My eyes dart around the room looking for any clues when I spot a picture on a bedside cabinet. The revelation finally hits me I now know who that man is. I turn to rush out but see that man standing in the door way. "Have you finally figured out who I am now, I'm surprised you didn't figure it out sooner, for years I have been looking for you and all the while thinking of ways I could make you pay" He cocks his gun "After I found you I hatched this very plan which would lead you to this very moment, the fear I made you feel has made the years of suffering all worth it, i'm going to make you pay for what you did to my father" His eyes still locked on mine. "What I want to know is why" he asks I quickly answer with my reply "Because your dad wasn't good enough for my mum to he needed to know his place" I swipe at him with my knife but he dodges the attack and fires a shot into my leg and I drop to the floor in agony. "You're pathetic they where in love but you stopped that" he walks a step closer "And before I end your sniveling life I didn't kill your boss, I don't kill innocent people the only reason the police were there was due to a hoax bomb threat I called in" He puts his foot on my stomach, picks the knife off the floor plunges the knife deep into my heart. As I feel my life slipping away and my vision blurring I see him smiling.
